Welcome to NurseHub’s lesson on Even and Odd Rules. This lesson will help you to prepare for the Math section of your TEAS exam.

Learning Goals:

  • Apply the rules of even and odd numbers to determine outcomes

Why is this skill important to know?

We get stronger in our math skills when we understand number sense. It also helps us check whether or not our answer seems reasonable.

Key Vocabulary:

· Even Numbers – Numbers that are evenly divisible by 2. Rule: They end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.

· Odd Numbers – Numbers that are not evenly divisible by 2. Rule: They end in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

· Integer – Another name for a whole number

Key Points:

1. Every pair of odd numbers, when added or subtracted, results in an even number.

2. If an odd number of numbers is added or subtracted, the answer will be odd. (So, if you add or subtract 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, etc. integers/numbers, your answer will be an odd number.)

3. If you multiply or divide an even number by an odd number, the answer will be even.

4. If you are multiplying or dividing only odd numbers, the answer will be odd.
