• Check necessary school requirements. Be aware of the types of TEAS exams accepted by the school, as well as important deadlines for testing and submission of test transcripts.
• Register for the testing method you prefer. TEAS offers four different methods for testing. Each test method is proctored, and no matter how you take the test, every applicant receives the same exam.
• Exam methods include:
  • In-person at an institution
  • In-person exam offered at a PSI testing center with a proctor
  • Online exam provided by an institution with a remote proctor
  • Online exam proctored by ATI with a remote proctor
• Choose your location, test date, and time. Once you register for the date that works best for your schedule, you are eligible to receive one transcript to send to a school. Additional transcripts can be purchased if applying to other programs.

The TEAS 7, or Test of Essential Academic Skills Version 7, is a standardized entrance exam used by nursing schools and allied health programs. The test is meant to tell the school whether you’re prepared and have the skills needed to succeed in their programs before you start.

The TEAS 7 exam covers four main subjects:

1. Reading (45 questions, 55 minutes) 

The reading section assesses your ability to comprehend written passages and answer questions based on the information presented.

2. Math (38 questions, 57 minutes) 

The math section evaluates your skills in basic arithmetic, algebra, and measurement calculations. 

3. Science (50 questions, 60 minutes)

The science section tests your knowledge of general science concepts, including anatomy, biology, chemistry, and the scientific method. 

4. English and Language Usage (37 questions, 37 minutes)

The English and Language Usage section focuses on grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and vocabulary. 

• The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is divided into four sections, each consisting of a different number of questions. Here’s the breakdown:
• Reading: This section consists of 53 questions.
• Mathematics: This section includes 36 questions.
• Science: There are 53 questions in this section.
• English and Language Usage: This section contains 28 questions.
• So in total, there are 170 questions on the TEAS 7. Keep in mind that out of these, 150 are scored and 20 are unscored pretest questions.

• Are all the questions multiple-choice?
• The TEAS 7 mostly consists of multiple choice questions. But there are 4 new questions types that have been added to the TEAS 7.
• Multiple Select: There will be four or more answer choices, and there might be more than one correct option. The question will instruct you to “select all that apply.” Be careful because any incorrect choices selected or any correct options left unselected will lead to the question being marked as incorrect.
• Fill in the blank: You will not be provided any answer options. These questions test your knowledge and ability to recall information without being guided by provided options. 
• Hot Spot: You will be given an image with 2-5 clickable hotspots. Click on the area that the question is asking about to answer these correctly.

Ordered Response: These questions ask you to accurately arrange a set of provided responses. Each question will present you with four to six responses, which you must carefully drag and place from a box on the left to a corresponding box on the right.

• Reading: 45 questions (55 minutes)

• Total: 209 minutes

Yes, generally you are given 1 piece of scratch paper. At home testing also allows you to have scratch paper. Make sure to show your online proctor that you have scrap paper and how much scrap paper that you have.

Most schools allow you to use a calculator. You cannot bring a calculator but you will be given a basic four-function calculator on your screen. Similar to the calculator app on your phone. 

• The ATI TEAS scoring system is made up of three types of scores: Total score, Content Area scores (Reading, Math, Science, and English), and Sub-Content Area scores (e.g., Key Ideas and Details, Craft and Structure). Although all scores range from 0.0 to 100%, their calculation methods differ.
• Total and Content Area scores are equated, which means they are based on the percentage of correctly answered items, but they are adjusted to account for variations across different versions of the ATI TEAS exam. This equating ensures comparability between scores from one form (test) to another. However, it also means that these scores cannot be directly calculated using other information on the score report. In other words, content area scores cannot be used to determine the total score, and sub-content area scores cannot be utilized to calculate content area scores.
• On the other hand, Sub-Content Area scores are calculated based on the percentage of correctly answered questions within each specific sub-content area. Since these scores are not equated across different exam forms, they should not be compared directly.

A passing score depends on your school. Reach out to your school in order to find out what score they consider passing. Most schools require at least a 70%.

• Yes, you can send your TEAS exam results (or TEAS Transcript) to more than one school by purchasing additional transcripts or Transcript Credits through the ATI Store. You may submit your scores to these schools following the completion of your TEAS exam. You will do this by logging into your student account on ATIs website and clicking the My Results tab. You will see your TEAS exam results and below your results, you will see a link to Send Transcript.
• Make sure to check with your score to see if they will allow you to send scores not taken through their school. 

This really depends on person to person. We recommend giving yourself enough time to start studying so that you do not feel rushed. However, we have seen plenty of people pass with only a week of studying. We recommend taking our free practice test to see which areas you need the most practice with and start from there when developing your study plan.

• Bring all necessary registration documents.  
• Ensure you have proper internet and computer system requirements if testing online.  
• Bring confidence and a positive attitude. You can do this!

Scores should be posted within 48 business hours. If you are testing at PSI: Your ATI TEAS Exam results can take up to 72 business hours to appear in your account.
